Did they try using cameras to scan forest for marijuana plants?

From the news it seems there is a lot growing activity and nobody can find it. If they scan every square foot logically they can find it. I’m pretty sure with high resolution photo they can tell marijuana plant and growing activities.
I thought this so doable and why haven’t anyone done it.
